This weekend, guests visiting Busch Gardens Tampa Bay have the opportunity to join in the celebration of two endangered species thriving under the park’s care. The park has special plans for the first birthday of Malu, a Bornean orangutan, and the newest fall arrivals at the park: four fluffy African penguin chicks, as BABY ANIMALS THRIVE AT BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA BAY

SATURDAY, OCT. 13: Just in time for African Penguin Awareness Day, the park welcomes four penguin chicks to the rookery. Park guests will have the FIRST opportunity to see the newest additions to the Busch Gardens penguin family this Saturday as a part of the park’s African Penguin Awareness Day celebration. The hatchlings will appear intermittently in the Animal Care Center between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 13, where guests can watch as the zoo team provides for the young birds. Ultimate penguin fans can also book a PENGUIN INSIDER TOUR for a behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating warm-weather flock that calls Busch Gardens home.

This year’s babies are the largest group of penguin chicks that has ever hatched at Busch Gardens. At this stage in their development, the young chicks are expected to eat 60% of their body weight each day to ensure proper growth. Varying in age from two to four weeks old, the chicks are under 24 hour supervision with the animal care team at Busch Gardens.

SUNDAY, OCT. 14: It’s an ORANGUTAN BIRTHDAY! Guests can swing by the Jungala area of the park to wish young Malu, a Bornean orangutan, a happy first birthday during a 1:00p.m. celebration this Sunday. Malu was born on October 14, 2017 to first-time mom, Luna, weighing in at just over 8 pounds. His arrival was monumental for Busch Gardens, as orangutans typically only have one baby every 7-10 years. Today, he is a healthy and curious young ape, growing strong and learning alongside his mother each day.

As one of the largest zoos in the country, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s animal care team plays a vital role in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for a number of endangered species. The African penguin and the Bornean orangutan are both endangered in the wild, largely due to habitat loss caused by humans. Each baby animal at the park sparks new hope for their species as they bring awareness to the plight of their wild counterparts.

The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund supports research and conservation projects, including initiatives that directly benefit African penguins and Bornean orangutans. To learn more about these projects, guests can visit the fund’s website for additional information.

2016 has been quite a dynamic year for Orlando Theme Parks. Many new attractions opened and celebrations began, which has been great for the industry and visitors alike! Let’s take a look back and see what has transpired!

Universal Orlando Skull Island: Reign Of Kong

There is no doubt, the summer opening of Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Islands Of Adventure, brought a new era of animatronic’s to Universal. Guest’s get to brave the dangers of a 1930’s expedition that’s caught in a clash between prehistoric predators and fearsome creatures. As ferocious beasts battle, King Kong hurls himself between you and certain doom. But is he friend, or foe? With each primal roar. Each chest pounding thud. One thundering truth comes clear: This is his home, his kingdom. Only he reigns.

Incredible Hulk Roller-coaster

The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure roared back to life and reopened in August, after a near-complete transformation since it closed September 2015. The revamped Incredible Hulk coaster features a new story line, a redesigned queue experience, a new track, a new ride vehicle and a new on-board ride score composed by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy.

Walt Disney World Star Wars Launch Bay

Disney World wasn’t about to be left behind this year, so new Star Wars experiences were added. The Star Wars themed entertainment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios includes Star Wars Launch Bay, a central locale for fans to celebrate all things Star Wars, new scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, a reimagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, where younglings can train with lightsabers and fight Darth Vader, Seventh Sister Inquisitor from the popular Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels, and other characters from the Dark Side, and “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.”

New Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire

New Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire stage show opened this year and for the first time, modern Disney characters Tiana of “Princess and the Frog,” and Rapunzel of “Tangled,” co-star with Anna and Elsa of “Frozen,” and a host of classic characters performed on the grandest stage in the kingdom. The star-studded tale of friendship presents Mickey Mouse and his troupe of Merry Makers — Minnie Mouse, Donald, Daisy and Goofy – who invite 10 new friends from different animated worlds to join the celebration. This “timeless fairytale” of a show combines grand dance, fireworks and stunts with memorable music, an original song and special effects.

SeaWorld Orlando Mako Rollercoaster at SeaWorld Orlando

Named for one of the ocean’s fastest known sharks, Mako is Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster. It opened in the summer and the response has been overwhelming! “On Mako you’ll experience what it’s like to be this apex predator, surging through the water at top speed and chasing prey throughout a massive reef,” said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s Senior Director, Development & Design. “It will be a wild mix of fear, thrills and fun.”

Legoland Florida Legoland Florida’s Build a Raft

When the LEGOLAND Water Park opened for the summer in 2016 it came with a new attraction and some amenities to make your visit even more incredible. The new Creative Cove Build-A-Raft is the newest attraction where kids can create and race LEGO watercraft through fast-flowing rivers alongside cheering crowds in a setting inspired by the popular LEGO City Coast Guard sets.  The Imagination Station has a new expansion that now lets younger model citizens build and play with colorful DUPLO bricks in a water-filled activity center.
