Year after year, millions of tourists from all over the world are attracted to Orlando, and the reason why of course are the Theme Parks. Central Florida, is the center of four of the most famous theme parks, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and Legoland Florida, all vying to outdo each other. We are always hearing news about fresh attractions, new characters, new films, annual events and holidays. These all make Orlando Theme park tickets the ultimate best-selling commodity but what is it that lures guests to pay upwards of $100 a day per person? Here are some of the hooks that are being used to draws us in.
What Attracts People to Orlando Theme Parks?
Mickey Mouse
Ok, so Mickey Mouse is probably at the very top of the list. The oversize, walking, talking, happy-go-lucky, Mickey Mouse, was created by Walt Disney himself in 1928 at the Walt Disney Studio company. Mickey Mouse, the most recognizable cartoon personality associated with the Disney Parks, wears white gloves, red shorts and yellow shorts, and has become the symbolic character of the Walt Disney Enterprise. When children see Mickey it brings a smile to their faces, and who is more persuasive than our children!
Cinderella Castle
Little girls dream of being Cinderella and living in a huge castle with a handsome prince, so there are no words to describe the emotions that stir at the first sight of this perfectly fantastical giant white castle. The Cinderella Castle is just as symbolic of Disney World as Mickey Mouse for the Walt Disney Company. Nobody ventures to Orlando without witnessing the bright white castle of dreams.
Shamu
Shamu is possibly the most famous family of killer whales on the planet, and SeaWorld has used this huge giant mammal to attract crowds for centuries. Shamu was the name given to SeaWorld’s first ever performing whale in the 1960’s, and has since been given to every adult whale performing in the many acclaimed SeaWorld killer whale shows. Ever since the documentary “Blackfish”, was released, controversy surrounding this iconic SeaWorld symbol has hurt the theme parks attendance, however kids and adult alike are still willing to pay almost $100 for a single day admission. The crowning jewel for kids is Shamu’s Happy Harbor, a delightful collection of kiddie rides themed to the sea. The little Shamu Express roller coaster is always a favorite, but youngsters also love to scramble aboard sea creatures on the specially designed carousel.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
What is there is say about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure? It opened to the public on 18th June 2010. Universal Orlando partnering with Warner Bros and J K Rowling to bring this incredibly lifelike Wizarding World of Harry Potter to theme park goers was an obviously smart move. The films and the books themselves created a fantastical and enthusiastic following, which has followed suit at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Wizarding World of Harry Potter and in 2014 Diagon Alley opened at Universal Studios. Universal Orlando has created a unique selling strategy, by connecting the two theme parks with the “Hogswarts Express” and advertising the Park to Park tickets in order to ride it. It seems to be working because the Park to Park tickets is probably to most popular ticket sold by far.
Legoland Florida
Who remembers spending hours sitting in the floor and building dozens of buildings, people, and vehicles with the famous Legos? Why not create a huge Theme Park that features everything Legos? Legoland has done just that. Tourists come from all over to visit Legoland Florida and experience the 50 rides, shows and attractions the 150-acre park has to offer. It also features 15,000 Lego figures made of a combined 50 million small, plastic bricks. The buildings in Miniland are wired for electrical features such as lights, and the blocks are glued together with a special polymer so they remain intact while on display. No matter what new character or theme is added to the park, there seems to be a never ending fascination with real world people and places built out of Legos. As long as these colorful plastic bricks continue to capture the imagination of our children, there’s no doubt that Legoland Florida will always be one of the top destination for kids!
