Universal Orlando officially announced that major enhancements are coming to the movie theater beginning this fall, as it becomes Universal Cinemark. The grander enhancements promise to “enrich your entertainment experience, further immersing you in the action of the films in the most cutting-edge movie-watching environment available.”
The transformation of Universal’s theater will begin in September and take several months to complete. New, reclining, Cinemark Luxury Loungers with extendable footrests, cup holders and plush seating will be installed in all 20 auditoriums, so Guests can kick up their feet and enjoy the ultimate comfort while watching their favorite films.
As part of this project, the theater will receive a new Cinemark XD auditorium. The XD auditorium offers comfortable, luxurious Lounger seating, the brightest digital images, and the latest movies every week.
Guests can even increase their movie-going experience by joining Cinemark Movie Club, a exclusive monthly movie membership program offering ticket and concession discounts along with other exclusive benefits.
The theme park company did not reveal how much the renovations will cost. Reports are that just the seating replacements for similar Cinemark theaters could cost $250,000 per auditorium, which places the Universal renovation costs starting at about $5 million-plus.
This marks the beginning of Universal’s partnership with Cinemark Theatres, which operates more than 530 theaters around the world. The theater will be closed all day on Friday, September 14 to prepare for Universal Cinemark’s debut on Saturday, September 15.
