After several months of speculating Disney has finally announced that at the far end of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood Studios, an all-new special event venue plans to open December 5th.. This entertainment showplace has been custom designed to host a variety of different experiences over time.
Club Disney Opening at Hollywood Studios
The new premier venue at the new Sunset Showcase will be called Club Disney, as is being touted as the hottest spot in town for kids and characters alike! The official announcement isn’t clear how Club Disney will fit into a theater space, only promising that this new entertainment offering will immerse guests in a “club environment” with top 40 music mixed with Disney tunes spun by a live DJ, all while projections of Disney characters are splashed on the walls.
There will also be a seating area, snack bar and phone charging station in a different area inside the venue for those who don’t want to get their groove on or get tired of dancing and want to take a break.
Located between Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, the new Sunset Showcase is a flexible theater space that has been designed to host a variety of shows. It is widely predictable that the park’s existing multi-purpose theater space, the Premier Theater, will be removed as part of the park’s redevelopment.
Disney also announced that the Sunset Showcase Theater new venue will be used for a number of special events throughout the year, so Club Disney may not be around long. Considering Star Wars Weekends “Season of the Force” is supposedly coming up in January, don’t be surprised if some sort of event-exclusive show will probably move into this theater around that time. Beyond that, this theater will probably play host to a number of private events throughout the year in the same way that the Premiere Theater used to.
Nevertheless, if Club Disney proves to be popular, there’s a possibility of a return show during other peak guest traffic times. Also depending on if Frozen Summer Fun returns to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or not, the Sunset Showcase Theater could see Club Disney coming back to the park as early as June 2016 to help fill the gaps left by this event.
With everyone speculating on what new refurbishments Hollywood Studios was going to undergo this does seem like a smart use of the venue, as it will keep guests occupied during the busy winter season, which is especially essential as this Disney Park is down so many attractions that wait times are expected to go through the roof at this holiday season.
