Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney revealed recently that an all-new show created on the Disney-Pixar’s Cars franchise, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy Show is Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is scheduled to open early 2019 but may start as soon as December of this year. Mater and Cruz Ramirez friends of McQueen’s will show off what they’ve learned about racing with visitors of all ages.

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will welcome guests to the world of Cars and bring them face to face with racing legend Lightning McQueen. Learn what it takes to be a champion racer, and of course, this is Lightning McQueen, so a few twists and turns are to be expected on the road ahead.

High-Tech Hijinks

To kick things off, Lightning demonstrates what he’s learned over the years by using his brand-new, state-of-the-art racing simulator and its wraparound screen. Of course, as this seasoned racer has discovered throughout his career, things don’t always go according to plan, and he has to think fast to get back on course.

Cars” characters have made limited appearances in the Disney World parks, including a meet-and-greet area for Cruz at Hollywood Studios’ Pixar Place. Disney California Adventure has also been home to a popular Cars Land attraction for the past six years.

Hollywood Studios already is in expansion mode with additions next year including Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which is in the works in the former Great Movie Ride building, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a land set to open in late fall of 2019.

The “Cars” announcement was shared after a recap of ongoing construction from Walt Disney World President George A. Kalogridis. Members of the international media were reminded of work being done on resorts such as Coronado Springs and on the Disney Skyliner gondola system.
