SeaWorld Welcomes Eight Penguin Chicks
At the state-of-the-art habitat, rocks were put out a few months ago to get the birds ready for breeding season, which starts at the end of October and lasts through January. Of the eight chicks hatched, two were gentoo, four Adelie, and two rockhopper, and they ranged in weight from two to four ounces (the equivalent of about two to four slices of bread). The chicks are currently being raised by their parents inside the attraction with routine check-ups from the SeaWorld Orlando Aviculture Team, who monitor the chicks’ weight and overall development. The hatchlings are living in an area where theme-park guests can see them — but it’s not easy to spot them. They are small and usually huddled beneath their parents for warmth.
