Universal Orlando’s New Happenings

Rumor has it that Jurassic Park in Universal’s Islands of Adventure is about to grow! The OTC Genius has an insider’s scoop that development has begun, the site has been approved and they have started surveying the land behind the famous Dinosaur land. The games section of what is left of the Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure is being removed as part of the Jurassic Park expansion. The team workers working there will be moved to the new area. The largest attraction in Jurassic Park is the “River Adventure” which is a water tour in which visitors cruise along the river before taking a wrong turn into danger! The attraction also has the Jurassic Park Discovery Center as well as the Pteranodan Flyers for kids. Universal may be expanding the land because Jurassic Park 4 motion picture is currently in pre-production. It is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015. An additional Jurassic Park film will renew guests’ interest in the theme park land. If all of this is true then this will be the largest expansion to Islands of Adventure since the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in 2010.  However, remember this is just rumor. Universal hasn’t officially announced anything yet, nor is it expected as the park has just opened The Simpsons’ Springfield, and is still underway for the Harry Potter Diagon Alley opening in 2014. Harry Potter land has also just received a Hogwarts Express train station which will take guests to the new Diagon Alley land at Universal Studios. A train was placed on the tracks on Thursday and it will travel between Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley, which is currently under construction at Universal Studios. The OTC Genius will keep his eyes and ears open, and will let you know as soon as he does!! In the meantime try Universal’s 2 day base with 3rd Day FREE, and save $10 OFF your ticket!! Comments Off on Princess Fairytale Hall Opens

Princess Fairytale Hall opens at Fantasyland!!

The highly anticipated Princess Fairytale Hall has finally been opened to Disney Princess Fans! Its vibrantly decorated tournament tent facade can be found in the Castle Courtyard in the middle of Walt Disney’s Fantasyland.

Princess Fairytale Hall is a glorious gift from the king to Cinderella, and a place for her to meet the subjects of Fantasyland. It resembles a magnificent castle, and just inside the stone and stained glass antechamber are several details from the world of Disney princesses including portraits, Cinderella’s glass slipper, ornate stained-glass windows, tapestries and so much more! There are two inner chambers in which Cinderella, and Rapunzel will meet with their guests. A surprise princess is on hand to keep each one company, but you will have to come and visit yourself to see who it is.

As you enter the opulent chamber you see a huge framed painting of a fairytale setting and a table with a set of storybooks that bear the titles of fairytales in the language of the original tale. Rose vases are placed on the far side of each reception room and wallpaper decorated with crowns and other regal images completes the scene. Guests are encouraged to bring cameras to capture the experience but there are also Disney PhotoPass photographers on hand in case you forget.

With the hall’s completion, there’s only one piece left to the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. That will come to realization in early 2014 with the opening of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster.

Comments Off on SeaWorld Orlando’s TurtleTrek

Sea Turtles Find Home SeaWorld’s TurtleTrek

Orlando, Fla. (August 27, 2013) – Two female loggerhead sea turtles were moved into SeaWorld Orlando’s turtle habitat, TurtleTrek. Big Mama, a 245-pound adult, and Caton, a 95-pound sub-adult, were deemed non-releasable by wildlife government officials and were brought to SeaWorld last month by outside agencies to serve as the animals’ permanent home.

Big Mama was transported to SeaWorld Orlando from the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) in Gulfport, Miss., where she had been receiving care since she was rescued after an oil spill off the coast of Louisiana in 2010. Big Mama suffered from severe bite wounds to her front and hind flippers, making it difficult for her to swim properly. In 2012, Big Mama was deemed non-releasable, and due to space limitations, IMMS could no longer care for her.

Caton was rescued in 2009 by the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC), who found her stranded on Blackbeard Island off the Georgia coast. GSTC spent months rehabilitating Caton, but when she was healthy enough to be returned to her natural environment, Caton had other plans. The GSTC attempted to return Caton not just once, but three times. After the third return, which was thought to have been successful until Caton was found back on the beach a week later, government officials deemed her non-releasable

The pair joined 14 other rescued sea turtles, including a hawksbill, 10 green and three loggerheads, which have also been deemed non-releasable. These turtles serve as ambassadors for their species, helping to educate guests about wildlife conservation and how they can make a difference with everyday actions.

In collaboration with the government and other members of accredited stranding networks, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment operates one of the world’s most respected programs to rescue ill and injured marine animals, with the goal to rehabilitate and return to the waters. SeaWorld animal experts have helped more than 22,000 animals in need – ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned – for more than four decades.

So far this year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued 52 and returned 45 sea turtles.

Yesterday, loggerhead sea turtle Caton, was moved into her permanent home, along with another loggerhead, Big Mama, at SeaWorld Orlando’s TurtleTrek. After being deemed non-releasable by the government, she was transferred to SeaWorld Orlando in July.

Comments Off on New Loggerhead Sea Turtle Ambassador!

OTC GENIUS: Breaking news!!

New Loggerhead Sea Turtle Ambassador, makes home in SeaWorld Orlando!!

The loggerhead turtle, named Caton will  have a great new job serving as her species’ newest ambassador at SeaWorld theme park’s new sea turtle exhibit.

She has been living on beautiful Jekyll Island at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, after being found stranded and severely incapacitated in 2009.  The Center brought her back to health and tried to release her back into the wild three times, but she refuse to leave.

The center’s staff were dismayed when after the first two attempts at release, Caton always manage to swim back.

The third try was much more successful when they took her out in the Atlantic and then released her. Hopes were dashes however when she was found on the beach in Jekyll Island a week later, so the Sea Turtle Center decided the best thing for Caton was to transfer her to SeaWorld Orlando where she could make her home among more Loggerheads at SeaWorld Turtle Trek!

“Caton is a beautiful sea turtle and will be a great Ambassador for her species,” Dr. Terry Norton, director of the Sea Turtle Center. “She is a favorite of many of our visitors and I am confident she will hold a special place in the hearts of her new visitors. This is big moment for not only Caton, but also for the Sea Turtle Center. We’re thrilled about this new joint effort.”
